Future Shock
A poem by Douglas Gempel
July 7, 2013
We all have a future
based on a clock,
For some of us it may
become a shock,
As we sit and ponder,
In awe and wonder,
What may occur,
Is currently a blur,
Or is it divine,
To be in line,
Like a lemming on the
edge,
Or our feet on a
ledge,
About the future,
Like a ripped open
suture,
We develop our plans,
And fire up our lans,
To prevent an issue,
That requires more
than tissue,
But in this place,
The Human Race,
Is big on hype,
But doesn’t read the
type,
That has been written
for the ages,
And on many web
pages,
That we are killing
the earth,
And spending its
worth,
So that future
generations lost,
At our generations
cost,
Of killing the trees,
Of starting a new
freeze,
Of melting ice,
The result is not
nice,
For in the end,
The earth won’t bend,
And we will die,
With contaminated
sky.
